  • IF YOU USE AOL TO ACCESS THE INTERNET
    We strongly recommend that you:
    1. Use version 4.0 or greater
    2. Turn off the "Use Compressed Graphics" option under My AOL>> Preferences>> WWW
    3. Sign on using AOL. Then minimize it (do not close) and open either Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator.

If you see an animation below, you have the proper Chime plug-in.

Chime is a plug-in for displaying 3-D molecular structures on the Web. You can download it now from the distributor, MDL.


You need the Flash, Shockwave, Quicktime, and Chime Plug-ins to fully avail yourself of the educational media on this site. You should see four animations above. If you do not see all four animations, install the appropriate plug-ins from the installer on your CD or download them from the Web by clicking the links provided above.

If you are experiencing problems with QuickTime 6.3 or 6.5 or similar this is due to the Streaming Transport settings. Go to Control Panel > Quicktime > Choose Streaming Transport from the dropdown menu > CHANGE THE FOLLOWING: If QT is set up to Automatically determine the best protocol and port ID, they must change it to the following: They must first click the box that says: Use the this protocol and port ID: and then they must check the box that says: Use HTTP, Port ID: 80. screenshot


Screen Resolution
  • Macintosh users adjust the screen resolution in the Monitors Control Panel.
  • Windows users, go to Settings > Control Panel > Display > Settings.
